This paper introduces students to the social sciences. We begin by considering what the social sciences are, and consider when, where, how, and why they developed. We look at how social scientists view the world, consider personal worldviews and their powerful influence on how people make sense of their lives and others鈥�. We also explore groups in general, looking in particular at customs, laws and institutions - how they work, what happens when they break down, how they change over time and how they can be studied.
