Waikato Tainui Scholarships and grants

A range of scholarships and grants for Waikato Tainui registered tribal members, residing in NZ and studying at university. 

 

Parininihi ki Waitotara (PKW) Trust Tertiary Grants and Scholarships Programme 

Closing Date:

31 March | All Levels | value varies 

A suite of scholarships for students who whakapapa to one of the eight iwi of Taranaki with study that aligns to PKW business needs. This includes Toi Māori/Traditional Māori Art, Agriculture, Horticulture, Commerce, Marketing, Engineering and Logistics, banking and finance.    

 

Sir Apirana Ngata Memorial Scholarship 

Closing Date:

01 May | all levels | unknown value 

The Sir Apirana Ngata Memorial Scholarship was created by the Māori Soldiers Trust Act 1957 to promote higher education of Māori. 

 

Undergraduate Level

Hiwa-i-te-rangi Māori Health Leadership Scholarship 

Closing Date:

31 August | Undergraduate | up to $10,000 

A workforce development scholarship is investing in Māori who are on a pathway to making a difference for health equity outcomes. 

 

Postgraduate Level

Port of Tauranga Scholarships 

Closing Date:

02 February | Postgraduate | up to $30,000 

A list of scholarships available for tertiary students who have an affiliation to Tauranga Moana iwi (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Pūkenga) 

 

New Zealand Coastal Society Māori & Pacific Island Research Scholarship 

Closing Date:

01 May | Postgraduate | $2,500 to $5,000 

For students of Māori or Pacific Island descent conducting research that has the potential to contribute towards the aims of the New Zealand Coastal Society.  

 

Māori Cancer Researcher Award  

Closing Date:

11 October | Postgraduate | $45,000 to $160,000 

For Māori researchers committed to hauora Māori, maximising Māori cancer health gains, addressing existing cancer inequities, and/or fostering Māori health aspirations. We value applications that include kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori. 

  

He Manawā ā Whenua Scholarship  

Closing Date:

30 October | Postgraduate | $7,500 

To encourage Māori students to pursue a research career and develop their capability in freshwater ecology and/or kaupapa Māori research surrounding wai.  

 

Rosemary Seymour Research & Archives Award 

Closing Date:

15 November | Postgraduate | $1,500 

research projects that engage with and reflect its aims of promoting radical social change through the medium of women's studies. One award is open to Māori wahine, while the second is open to all women.
